About Alyssa Ritch-Frel:

Alyssa Ritch-Frel is a Brooklyn, New York-based professional genealogist and historical researcher, who specializes in researching New York, the Southeastern United States, and the Caribbean.

Alyssa grew up in Washington DC and Vienna, Austria, two cities filled with monuments to the past, and thus developed a love of history at an early age. She graduated from Skidmore College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and moved to New York City, where she quickly made Brooklyn her home.

After years of researching her own diverse, complicated family tree, whose branches ran the gamut from American Revolutionary patriots in the Carolinas to Syrian immigrants who settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Alyssa became fascinated with family history, She soon earned her Certificate in Advanced Genealogical Research from Boston University, and later followed with a Certificate in African-Native American Genealogy from the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute (MAAGI).

Alyssa is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society, the Association of Caribbean Historians, the National Genealogical Society (NGS), and currently serves as Registrar of the Manhattan Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
